H.C. Track conception

  • Aspects of the musical style in this track, 'Birds Don't Sing', have several connotations of location. The guitar sound coupled with the use of trumpets are associated of Spanish festival music and therefore connote to me an outside location, such as a beach or seaside town. This would be a good track to practise with on our Brighton trip next week, as I believe it suits the location very well.
  • This song could potentially suit both a narrative style video and a montage sequence of 'documentary' style footage, however I feel it would be better suited to the latter.
  • Because of the composition of the instruments and the dance style that is upheld in the music, this song is predominately aimed at a youthful audience, and so we would reflect this in the footage by positioning young characters as our lead roles. Within these characters it would be necessary to explore themes of rebellion, disregard for polite social practise, material possession and young love, as these are all culturally marked ideas that are associated with youth and Dyer's theories of stardom.
  • Soft lighting and transferred effects would enhance the visuals, giving them a more flawless look, and reinforcing the theme of stardom, by hiding imperfections.
  • Handicam camera shots are very typical of this genre and especially when creating a compilation style video, and positions the audience closer to the characters in the footage. A fish eye lens is also a stylistic trait in compilation videos and I would like to experiment with this type of shot to produce a panorama effect.
